Teach One Another

In Colossians 3:16, the Apostle Paul exhorts us with these words, “Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God.”

As a Christian, whether you know it or not, whether you believe it or not, God has called you to be a teacher in some form or fashion. In this passage, Paul exhorts us to teach one another. This speaks to the members of the body of Christ. It does not speak specifically to those with a teaching or preaching gift. Rather, it talks to all of us. Teach one another. This passage refers to the holding of discourse with others in order to instruct them, to impart an instruction, to instill a doctrine, or to explain a something. Your personal study of God’s word is not just to fill your head with knowledge; but that you may come to know Christ in a deeper and more intimate way, so, that you might share the things that you have discovered with others.

When you study God’s Word, do you just look for interesting facts, or do you look for your Lord? Remember what Jesus said about the scriptures, “It is these that bear witness of me.” Do you look for Him when you open the pages of your Bible? When you open your Bible, do you see yourself as sitting down before Him and hearing His wonderful words of life?

One thing that delights my heart is to visit with a fellow believer and to hear them share about what God is doing in their life, what they sense that God is speaking to them, and how He is leading them. I love to talk with people about Jesus and how He is working in their lives.

I want to ask you a question. What have you discovered about God this week that you did not know last week? Think about this, in this past week what new thing, what fresh thing has God revealed to you as you have spent time in His presence? Have you discovered something new, something fresh, something that has excited you? Now I ask you, with whom have you shared it?

I know how people act when they have purchased a new car. They drive it around and show it to family members and to friends. They are so excited that they have to share that excitement with someone. It’s alright to get excited about such things, but do you get as excited about the fresh things that Christ speaks to your heart day by day? Are you as anxious to share those things with your family and friends, as excited as you are to tell them about your latest vacation or your newest toy?

My dear friends, when God shares something new with you, don’t hold it in. Share it with someone. And in that sharing, you will fulfill the call to teach one another.
